Wulingyuan (Chinese武陵源pinyinWǔlíng Yuán) is a scenic and historic interest area in Hunan ProvinceChina, noted for its approximately 3,100 tall quartzite sandstone pillars, some of which are over 800 metres (2,600 ft) in height and are a type of karst formation. The site is in the Zhangjiajie City and lies about 270 kilometres (170 mi) to the northwest of Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province.
